Japanese folk craft shop in Miyajima

The inn where you can enjoy history and its garden.

The noble front gate of "Chikurinin Gunpoen" built with old trees has a historical air. This inn has been running over a thousand years and it was popular as 'shukubo'(visitors' or pilgrims' lodgings in a temple) in ancient times and appeared in Michelin Guide and Lonely Planet. Now, it is a standard Japanese-style inn with a 'shukubo' atmosphere.

The main entrance and the lobby are like the garden of woods and fountains of Yoshino cedar. The main features of this inn are large square pillars and wooden floor made of Yoshino cedar. A poem monument of YOSANO Akiko, a folding screen and a lunch box given and used by TOYOTOMI Hideyoshi when he had a cherry-viewing party are decorated in the building. These are worth while seeing.

The old and the new are mixed well at this inn. The guest room of the main building has traditional beauty and that of the new annex has modern facility. The inn prides itself on the gorgeous circuit style garden which is said to have been rebuilt by SEN no Rikyu in the Momoyama period. You can see mountains of Yoshino and Zao-do Hall from the hill top and white flowers of crape myrtle and a flower of cotton rose which changes its color from white to pink in the afternoon in some season.

Why don't you go on retreat and learn history while reflecting on the forerunners? It makes your trip memorable if you take 'Blue Symphony', the sightseeing limited express departs from Kintetsu Osaka-Abenobashi station which started its operation in September, 2016.

Chikurinin is the temple which is said to have been built by Prince Shotoku. Many people including writers and artists have stayed here ever since. It was a 'shukubo' when it opened, but now it has as good rooms as other inns over time.

Mushrooms, sweet chestnuts and Yoshino arrow roots from mountains, Japanese trout from Yoshino river are cooked and served as your dinner seasonally. Please enjoy the sophisticated taste of the local foodstuffs unique to Yoshino.
