Ryokan Kono Onsen

The ryokan with an onsen at Mukaishima, the opposite shore of Onomichi.

The island on the opposite shore of Onomichi separated by Onomici Waterway is called Mukaishima. There is continuous traffic of ships thru Onomichi Waterway and Onomichi is famous for this waterway as well as Senkoji temple. However, not many tourists know about how they can see very nice view of Onomichi city and the temple from Mukaishima as well as ships come and go in the day time and city lights at night.
Mukaishima has a lot of ship-building business and that has been making demand for accommodations for business trips. That is why Ryokan started more than 30 years ago. At that time, the ryokan only provided accommodation without meals. Currently not only meals but also onsen are provided so that many tourists in addition to business persons stay at this ryokan. The water of onsen is hot spring with radon and, maybe because it is by the sea, it is sea water. And this is one of few onsen at Onomichi.
The inside of the rokyan and rooms are not very fancy decorated like typical ryokan for tourists but a friendly approach to the guest at the ryokan is given and makes their stay enjoyable and relaxing. The local people use this ryokan for ceremonies because they like the dishes as they can fully enjoy the fish from Onomichi.
"Once a guest asked me if he could put his pictures and drawings on the walls to display. So I said yeas and displayed his works." "A guest who came here without a reservation became a repeater." Okami tells these stores with a smile. And these stories express the ryokan.

To go to the ryokan, you have to take a ferry, "Fukumoto tosen"(many service and boat can transport cars as well) from the pier it is about a 300 m walk from Onomichi station toward Onomichi Bridge. The ryokan is close to where boat arrives.
