Ryokan Setouchiso

The earthiness of Oshima and the rich green in the Japanese garden.

Setouchiso on Oshima on Shimanami Kaido has a wonderful green rich garden, well groomed and worth seeing. One might imagine an inn on Shimanami Kaido stands by the sea. But Setouchiso is located in the center of the island where real islander's live and it stands there steadily.

The meal is Kaiseki course using mainly fish from the Seto Inland Sea. Delicate dishes the host prepares make the guests realize that the dishes can express the host himself; simple and honest. Junior Okami, an inn manager, is nice, cheerful and makes the guests feel comfortable being with her. With these hosts, your stay will be an enjoyable one.

Another attractiveness of this ryokan is the bathroom in the separate building. The guests can see a well-groomed garden from the window while enjoying a nice and warm hot bath, surely make them happy. (It is not used when there are very few guests).

One example of their generosity is the flat room charge thru out the year. The host says "there are guests who have come here every year over 50 years and some of them are closer than my own relatives". That is why this ryokan is well accepted by its guests and it is a best-kept secret among them.
