Japanese folk craft shop in Miyajima

Ryokan Seto

Enjoy rich sea foods from Hakatajima while listening to the sound of ships come and go.

Hakatajima is famous for HAKATA SALT. Local Cusine Ryokan Seto is on Hakatajima stands in front of "Funaoriseto" (means fast current that may break ships and ships have difficulty to go through) where there is one of a few visiting spots on the island. It is "This-is-the-Seto-Inland-Sea" view and the guests will see a lot of ships come and go. On a fine day, they can see Shikoku Mountains far over the sea.
The island has a busy shipping business, this ryokan is often used as a place to welcome business partners. And also many visitors from far away, Fukuyama, Onomichi or Imabari, come this ryokan just for their dishes. Of course as its name tells, ryokan Seto is proud of their dishes. The dish includes sashimi and cooked fish with source using wild-caught fish from the Seto Inland Sea and having those dishes while hearing the sound of ships sure touches the hart of travelers.
Other characteristic of this wooden built ryokan is their rooms. All of them are Japanese style and every room is spacious and comfortable.
The above mentioned two points make the ryokan attractive enough but there is more to make tourists think they stayed at good ryokan. It is Okami, wife of the host and an inn manager, who serves you with the good-heartedness of islanders and that is not like a regular hotels service. There are not many tourist sites on the map but it is worth a visit to the island to stay at Local Cusine Ryokan Seto.

View from the room | Ryokan Seto
The ryokan faces "Funaoriseto", where the current is so fast that it is difficult to manage ships, and all the rooms have an ocean view. The guests can see the current, the movement of the tide and ships come and go.

The ryokan used to be a restaurant that specialized fish dishes. As an extension of the business, the host started a local cuisine ryokan. The host cooks the dishes using wild-caught seafood from the Seto Inland Sea and the dishes that enliven the taste of fish attracted not only local people but also visitors from a distance. Enjoy the dishes by the sea hearing the sound of ships and waves.
