Miyako Ryokan

Over time, from modern to retro.

Miyako Ryokan is located about a 10-minute walk west of JR Onomichi Station. There is a comprehensive facility for cyclists near the inn, so it is also convenient for enjoying cycling. The building of the inn, established in 1950, has a traditional Japanese tile roof, and the walls are stylish with stone decorations and stained glass in round windows.

The first floor of the three-story inn is decorated with a mixture of traditional Japanese and Western culture, and you can enjoy the elegant atmosphere. In the parlor next to the lobby, there are several kaleidoscopes collected by the third and current owner as a hobby. Looking through the kaleidoscope, you will get lost in the mysterious patterns and lose track of time.

There you will find a lamp with a distinct presence. It has an oval shade with arabesque iron feet. This shade is very old and was originally a ceiling light in a guest room. It was removed and stored during the renovation. The owner found it and liked it so much that he turned it upside down and revived it as a lamp. The lamp, which was moved from the ceiling to the ground, has become a symbol of the inn and provides gentle illumination.

The atmosphere on the second and third floors is completely different from that of the first floor. While the first floor has a Japanese-Western atmosphere, the second and third floors have Japanese tastes. The staircase covered with a red carpet from the second floor to the third floor is very steep and amusing.

During your stay, you may suddenly feel nostalgic. It may be similar to the feeling you had as a child when you visited your friend's house, like the friendly and welcoming feeling which your friend’s mother had. The inn is looking forward to your visit.
