Japanese folk craft shop in Miyajima

Minsyuku Kamada

As a cottage in Miyajima.

There used to be a shipyard by present Miyajima pier. Now it has become like a boat-house, but the stately appearance that the rail for raising and lowering ships is poking into the sea makes us feel its former glory. Yachts and pleasure boats are moored at the dock which was built around the "shipyard" and they color the calm sea brightly. A ferry is coming and going to the mainland, sea breeze is stroking our skin and a black kite is gliding gracefully. It is superlatively affluent time to blend into this scene.

The family home of the owner couple of this inn has this "shipyard". The master who was a salaried worker started this inn after retirement. Originally, it used to be the place where his relatives and friends get together. Now he feels "Serving guests every day is fun." and "It is interesting to meet people that he could not see when he was a salaried worker." The female master is very friendly and the master is bashful. The cheerful atmosphere is also one of the appeals of this inn. So many guests visit here regularly and some of them have a relationship with the owner couple as their relatives. This inn accepts "only one group for a day" on the idea that "Running this inn in order to enjoy life."

From the spring of 2018, the son of the owner also joined as a staff. Having experience in studying abroad, he is fluent in English and actively serving customers from overseas.

This inn is a two-minute walk from Miyajima pier. Subject to your wishes, we can offer dinner and breakfast. Please feel free to visit this inn as if it were your cottage in Miyajima. We hope to have a good time with our guests.

The main rooms consist of a living room with wood floor and a Japanese-style tatami room. You can use the living room for chatting and the Japanese-style room for taking a rest. You can watch a ferry go by and boats riding at anchor. We accept only one group for a day, so you can have a relaxing time without constraint.

We offer homely foods. We use seasonal vegetables and small fish of Setouchi and cook with all our heart so that you can finish all dishes served for you. For the guests staying long term, hand-rolled sushi and okonomiyaki, local food of Hiroshima, may also be served. We hope that you can enjoy your meal and have a good time. When it's pleasant outside, you can have dinner at the terrace.

Facilities

There used to be a small shipyard beside this inn. It was run by the master's father. Now ships are not made there, but we clean a small ship's bottom if requested. Two wooden boats made in the old days are anchored in front of the inn. Sometimes we go fishing in this boat and serve a dish using fish we caught to our guests. Tools and drawing sheets of the shipyard are displayed as objects in the building.
